Kids and Baking! How cute does that combination sound to you?
Well, when I was a kid my mother would ask me to come join her while she baked cakes for our birthdays or such special occasions. And I remember I had a diary where I wrote the recipes of all types of cake, pancakes, cookies and muffins. Every time we baked together, I learned something new and we have a great time together, even though it was messy! It is one very special memory that I have of my childhood and that is why here I am today to talk about why kids should be partnered with while baking and one very quick and interesting recipes that they should definitely try their hands on.
Baking enhances reading skills
Well, if kids are like me and follow recipe books step by step, they are sure to develop reading skills. In a later stage it helps your kids with translating other instructions such as how to work the television or putting together some IKEA furniture.
Baking enriches oral vocabulary
I swear when I say that there are so many terms for me when it comes to baking that I learn on a daily basis. Kids learn so many terms such as beat, whip, cream, sift and so much more which is a very important thing. With a little explanation and demonstration they can so much.
Baking introduces kids to basic life skill
Well, when you are a kid, you do not stereotype cooking/baking as a task for women. It helps build self-esteem and gratefulness within kids. They learn the skill to bake and feed themselves and others as they grow.
It definitely helps kids get better in mathematics
When your kids help you put 3 cups of flour in a mixing bowl or measure 1/3 cup powdered sugar, they are learning counting and fractions respectively. They learn about volumes and capacity and accuracy of measurement. That one cup of milk or 1 teaspoon butter makes a lot of difference. I could go on and on!
Do not forget it teaches them a lot of science too!
When it comes to baking, kids learn so many things like temperature, heat, fermentation and so much more. They learn about degrees and how baking soda helps breads and cookies to rise up. This keeps them intrigued as well as develops their learning skills.
And now as promised, it’s time for a quick, but interesting recipe which is my all-time favorite. It’s wait-for-it chocolate fudge.
Begin with cutting a piece of parchment paper to line a pan. Then grease the pan with a cooking spray or butter. Combine sweetened condensed milk, butter and choco chips in a bowl and microwave it for 2 minutes. Once everything melts, mix it well until smooth. Next comes vanilla essence and a tiny amount of salt. Once again mix everything really well and using a spatula, pour the fudge batter into the greased pan. Let it all cool and set in the fridge for 2-3 hours. Once its set, cut it into squares and enjoy.
Bonus: As this recipe contains no eggs, the kids are free to lick the bowl later.

Till then, keep baking!
