Marble Cake
Teacakes are the perfect snack, and they are not restricted to just an afternoon treat. We all know and love the classic sponge cake, which is delicious as it is, in its simplicity. But upgrading the sponge cake is definitely worth a shot – especially when there is chocolate involved! This recipe for marble cake is by Jatin Ailsinghani, and here is what he has to say about it –
“The story behind this recipe is that since my childhood, I have seen my Aunt bake this cake at home on every special occasion. After she left home, I used to miss that old delicacy of our house. The cakes purchased from the store were nothing compared to her cakes. The aroma of freshly baked cakes in the house was missing.
Seeing my passion for baking, my parents gifted me an oven on my birthday when I was in high school. I started baking and continued to explore my interest. This traditional recipe of a simple cake filled my house with the same old aroma. The magic was simple, with a few ingredients and easy steps to complete the spell.”
Ingredients
* Melted Butter – 100 gm
* Powdered Sugar – 200 gm
* All-Purpose Flour – 300 gm
* Eggs – 4
* Baking powder – 1 tsp
* Cocoa Powder – 3 tsp
* Vanilla Essence – a few drops
Method
- Preheat the oven for 10 min at 180 C.
- Take a clean and dry mixing bowl and break 4 eggs in it. Beat them till it is smooth. Whisk it using a hand mixer or a normal whisk.
- Now add the sugar little by little, and keep mixing it till its smooth.
- After all the sugar has been mixed in, add the butter to it and whisk. Make sure to keep the mixture smooth and without any lumps.
- Now, add the flour and baking powder to it and fold in with a spatula. Do not use a whisk or hand mixer here because it will result in over mixing, which can make the cake dense.
- Once the batter is smooth and doesn’t have any the lumps, divide the batter into two equal portions. To one of the portions, add the cocoa powder and fold it in until fully combined.
- Line a baking pan with butter paper or grease it with butter/ oil and some flour. Now, pour both the batters into the pan at the same time.
- Once this is done, run a toothpick inside the batter so that both of the batters mix. It should look like a swirly pattern in the cake pan, a mixture of chocolate and normal batters.
- Bake the cake for 20 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Once completely baked, the crust will be brown.
- Once baked, let it cool on a separate plate. When cooled, sprinkle with some icing sugar. Enjoy your marble cake with your morning coffee or evening tea!
